People with dwarfism are not all the same size, shape or function. Seating needs can vary significantly from one person to another.
The Novacustom StepUp Lift Chair is developed around the user’s measurements, posture, reach, transfer method, comfort and daily routines.
Many users will also be experiencing a properly fitted electric lift chair for the first time. Our process allows time to understand how the chair needs to support the user in everyday life.
The aim is to create a chair that feels supportive, practical and confidence-building from the first use.

The Novacorr StepUp Lift Chair is developed through a collaborative process involving the user, their family or support network, Occupational Therapist and the Novacorr team.
Rather than adapting the user to a standard chair, we work together to develop a seating solution around the individual’s body proportions, functional abilities, environment and everyday goals.
Together, we consider:
- The user’s measurements and body proportions
- Posture, positioning and seating tolerance
- Comfort and pressure-care requirements
- How the user transfers into and out of the chair
- Foot placement and step-up platform requirements
- The user’s ability to reach and operate the hand control
- Support required for daily activities
- Available space and access within the home
- The user’s routines, abilities and personal goals
- Potential future modifications
Designed to Evolve with the User
Our aim is to achieve the most suitable chair configuration from the beginning. However, seating for people with dwarfism and other short-stature conditions can involve many individual variables that may be difficult to fully understand before the user has lived with the chair.
Every person has unique body proportions, postural requirements, functional abilities and preferences. These requirements may also become clearer as the user becomes more confident using an electric tilt and lift chair.
For this reason, Novacorr recommends allowing for future modifications where possible. Depending on the chair configuration and the user’s changing requirements, refinements may include additional postural supports, foam adjustments, altered positioning components or other agreed modifications.
This flexible approach helps the chair remain practical, supportive and comfortable as the user’s confidence, preferences and functional needs develop.

From Assessment to Ongoing Support
1. Understand: We take the time to understand the user’s body proportions, posture, routines, environment, abilities and goals. This includes identifying the challenges they experience when using conventional seating and what they would like the new chair to help them achieve.
2. Plan: The user, family, Occupational Therapist and Novacorr team work together to determine the chair’s functional and clinical requirements. Measurements, transfers, foot placement, positioning, controls and environmental considerations are reviewed before the final configuration is agreed upon.
3. Build: The chair and integrated step-up platform are custom manufactured to the agreed configuration. Each component is designed to work together to provide appropriate access, support, comfort and functionality for the individual user.

Purpose-Built for Shorter Users
The Novacorr StepUp Lift Chair is individually designed for people of short stature, including people with dwarfism and other conditions where standard chair dimensions are unsuitable. The seat height, seat depth, armrest position, back support and foot placement can all be tailored to the user’s body measurements. This creates a safer, more supportive seating position and reduces the discomfort, instability and poor posture often caused by standard-sized furniture.
Advanced Tilt and Lift Functionality
The integrated tilt and lift system allows the chair to gently reposition the user while maintaining comfort and support. Tilt-in-space assists with pressure redistribution, postural management and extended sitting tolerance, while the lift function raises the chair to support safer and easier transfers. Novacorr seeks Occupational Therapist input wherever possible, working alongside the user and their family or support team.
Novacorr recommends allowing funding for future modifications where possible, so the chair can be adjusted as the user’s confidence, needs and circumstances change. Provision for future modifications after manufacture is built into the approach.

The StepUp is built on the Novacustom 150 Series platform, which has a safe working load of 150kg. A higher safe working load is available if you need it.
A one motor option lifts and reclines to tilt in space. A two motor option moves the back independently for greater flexibility and a lay flat position. Lift styles are tilt and lift, full tilt, or full lift.
Tilt-in-space tilts the entire seat and backrest together so body alignment is maintained. On this chair it combines leg raise and seat tilt, with a 50kg leg lift capability.
